Creating a Fit for Purpose Network

Two months ago the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games saw 4.9 Billion bytes of internet traffic traversing the network. Like the athletes, fit and trained for their purpose, so was the network supporting the Games (supplied by Avaya) which was able to deal with and respond to the unanticipated. The network ended the Olympics with 100% availability after delivering the equivalent of 3 Super Bowls a day for 17 days.

It is no secret that we live in a world where the technology landscape is advancing rapidly – Enterprise VoIP adoption, WLAN usage and video usage are all igniting our market segment while energy expenses to connect it all continue to rise. The reality is that making business decisions is hard enough, effectively connecting people to make those decisions should not be!
But today’s enterprise network is holding people back from connecting as effectively as they should and being able to fully leverage the unified communications applications enabled by VoIP/SIP, Video and mobility. Today’s networks are simply not good enough. It is too expensive, too complex and becoming increasingly closed.

We need a new approach … It’s time to move to a new type of network – a Fit for Purpose Network!

At Avaya we believe a new type of network design and capability is required. Simply put, the evolution of network requirements to support the increasing combinations of voice, video and multimedia traffic on the network requires an approach that is ‘fit for purpose’. An approach that focuses only on the attributes most critical to the enablement of a real time communications network: providing more resiliency, better performance, less TCO, all while using less energy.

So today Avaya announced 4 new products to help speed the adoption of Fit for Purpose Networks:

– Ethernet Routing Switch 8800 – Enterprise Campus LAN Core & Data Center product. Highly energy efficient and purpose built for virtualization and unified wireless
– Wireless LAN 8100 – Advanced Enterprise Class 11n wireless. Purpose built for optimized VoWLAN and unified wireless; innovative split-plane technology, separating control from traffic
– Advanced Gateway 2330 – Survivable Voice for the Branch. Cost-effective SIP gateway with optional WAN routing
– Configuration & Orchestration Manager – Unified Communications Management. Integrated Wired, Wireless, and Voice Management with payback in as little as 90 days

Enterprises will need a new type of data network – one built for performance but with compelling economics – a network design that Avaya believes we are uniquely qualified to deliver.
